Created by Linus Torvalds, Linux is a UNIX/POSIX-compliant operating system kernel. Teamed up with comprehensive applications, it comprises a flexible, strong environment, bringing the power of UNIX to most modern computers. Some important features:

Linux comes complete with source code for the kernel and most applications, with additional benefits:

any student or programmer may study, modify and improve components
a large community of users can share enhancements
both kernel and applications are constantly updated

From its microprocessor roots, Linux was ported to many architectures, from cellular phones to mainframes. It was the first popular system to reliably run on the new Intel Itanium. All my pages, including pictures, were created on Linux and native applications.

Linux is free (in the "freedom" sense), incredibly stable and sound. Linux systems can run for months without rebooting. Do you remember the day your system last crashed?
